Brian Kennedy and Heart Children Ireland announce acquisition of
18 new Oxygen Saturation Monitors
For Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin

Brian Kennedy, supporter of Heart Children Ireland, a voluntary support group and registered charity for those affected by congenital heart defects, today announced the acquisition of 18 Oxygen Saturation Monitors for the Cardiac Ward of Crumlin Children’s Hospital. This acquisition is part of an ongoing fundraising drive by Heart Children Ireland to support those affected by congenital heart defects.

Oxygen Saturation Monitors are used to measure the level of oxygen in the blood and to check a patient’s heart rate. These battery operated portable machines, which cost €550 each, will be provided to parents of small babies suffering from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, enabling them to bring their children home instead of having to remain in hospital.

Up until now, these children would need to stay in hospital until surgery could be performed, as their oxygen levels need to be monitored around the clock. However, with the new machines, these children can return home to their families as the parents will now be able to monitor the oxygen levels themselves.
