'1 to Remember'- The new TV Series for Brian
We are pleased to announce that Brian will present a brand new half-hour 10-week summer entertainment show, ‘1 To Remember with Brian Kennedy’, full of number one hits from the Irish charts through the years. The series will be broadcast on Sunday nights at 8.30pm on RTÉ One from 23rd July.
Members of the public will decide just what number one hits Brian and his guests will be singing. A website has been specially set up to allow members of the public to vote for their favourite five number one hits for each of the ten shows. Ten songs per show will be offered to pick from. After the votes have been counted a selection will then be performed on '1 to Remember with Brian Kennedy'.
The first Irish chart was released in 1962. The 100 number one hits available for the public to choose from will be from across the decades from then right up to the present day. A wide range of songs across the spectrum of genres, styles and tastes will be offered for the public’s vote.
The website, www.rte.ie/tv/1toremember will be launched from Wednesday 24th May. Interested music fans can log on there to cast their vote for the full 10 programmes of the series – along with their favourite Christmas songs for the Christmas Special.
The summer series will culminate in a Grand Finale in which the 10 most popular Irish Number One Hits from the entire series – voted upon by the public each week – will be sung.
Brian talked of his excitement about the new series. “It’s been a hugely busy, exciting and nerve-wracking time throughout the lead-up and performances for the Eurovision. I’m delighted with how I performed for the country – and for myself – and I’m very much looking forward to the new series. I’m hoping that the Irish public will come out in their droves to vote for their favourite no 1s. After all, they couldn’t vote for me in the Eurovision – but I’m begging them, vote for my songs now – give me the really good ones to sing!”
Members of the public who would like to attend the recording of these shows will also get the opportunity to request tickets on the same website. The e-mail address for tickets to the show is firstname.lastname@example.org. Anyone can request tickets, by leaving both your email and phone number. George Best - 1946 - 2005
I am sure you are aware that tens of thousands of people converged in Belfast on Saturday 3rd December to say a final farewell to Northern Ireland's football legend George Best. A private blessing was held at the family home in Cregagh, before a public funeral at the Parliament at Stormont.
Brian was invited to sing at the funeral by request of the Best family and I know he found it such a moving day and was amazed he even got one note out, never mind the whole song.
The response to the whole event has been overwhelming and due to the public demand and requests a charity record is due to be released shortly.

When informed of the charity record, Professor Roger Williams CBE, George’s surgeon, gave the following quote: "The final photos of George Best shocked many people but George wanted these to serve as a warning. It was his wish, and that of his family - as a tribute to that wonderful talent that gave pleasure to so many - that a Fund should be established in his name to support research into liver disease, which causes suffering to so many."
George’s sister, Barbara NcNally also said; “The family would like to assure the public that George never took his liver transplant for granted. Through the George Best Foundation we aim to raise funds to carry out research into alcoholism and liver disease.”
Personal tributes can be left at the National Football Museum, which will be housed in the museum's collections in Preston as a lasting memory, visit nationalfootballmuseum.com for information.
