Farmleigh - Mon 18th Dec ’06
Gemma Howard.........

Hi all! Just wanted to wish everybody a Happy Christmas and BK filled year in 2007!

What a wonderful start to the Christmas season my Aunt Jen and I had on Monday night; BK by candlelight in Farmleigh! It was pure magic. Gracing the stage, with his guitar in tow, Brian, accompanied by James, set about creating another magical evening of music, as has come to be expected from the pair, and they didn’t disappoint.

Brian and James were in great form and sang all the favourites, kicking off proceedings with the lively sound of The Curragh of Kildare, followed by Margaret Barry, A Better Man, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Silver Hearts, Message in the Box, Crazy Love, the list goes on…..

With the audience enthralled, Brian’s poignant rendition of Carrickfergus was only accentuated by the melancholy sound of the double bass. Combining songs like ‘Captured’, with classics such as ‘I dreamt I Dwelt’ and ‘The Blooming Heather’; Brian’s ethereal tones produced a performance of awesome appeal.

We had a fantastic night and the President seemed to enjoy it too! Mary McAleese was joined by her husband and daughter for this beautiful event and they seemed to be enjoying every moment of the evening.

The house was amazing, with gorgeous decorations and a beautiful Christmas tree in the Ballroom where Brian and James were performing. What a magnificent setting for BK’s angelic voice.
The simplicity of the musical arrangement (just Brian and James gracing the stage), produced a typically astounding and highly enjoyable evening’s entertainment….

Roll on Newry!

We couldn’t believe our luck to get tickets for Monday 18th December for Brian in Farmleigh, we couldn’t have been more excited and we weren’t disappointed!!

Needless to say Farmleigh is beautiful, especially at this time of year and the ball room was the prefect venue for a Brian show.  To make it even more special (if that’s possible) – Present Mc Aleese was there. The night was a perfect mix of old and new songs. (Curragh of Kildare, Better Man, Silver Hearts on Chains, Captured, Destination, Message in the Box, The Island, Crazy Love, Carrick Fergus to mention just a few).

The audience was delighted to sing along and were in fine voice!! You Raise Me Up ended the night, but after rapturous applause Brian returned to do “Silent Night” which was absolutely beautiful. This was the perfect end to a fantastic year of Brian experiences and we look forward to many more in 2007.

Happy Christmas Jane and to all Brian fans!!
